FAUX FINISHING CLASS BRIGHTENS VALPARAISO CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY CENTER

The students from the Faux Finish class taught by Kim Riley are pictured putting their newly learned skills to good use.

The Christian Community Center in Valparaiso was the recipient of a newly painted office space compliments of the class. The whole project only took one class period! Students taped, tarped and painted their hearts out.

The Faux Finish class consists of hands on painting in class followed by a class project. The students from previous classes have painted Gabriel's Horn in South Haven and the Career Center here at Burns Harbor. If you are taking a class at the center check out the brick breakaway with inlay posters in the men's bathroom, the red leather hallway and the elephant skin conference room.

For more information you can contact Kim at kimpaints4fun@comcast.net or check at the Learning Center.

FREEDOM CALLS
Families connect with loved ones in Iraq.

Family Members of Military personnel serving in Iraq received a special gift recently when they were able to visit with loved ones via some high-tech videoconferencing equipment supplied through Mittal Steel USA and the Institute for Career Development at Mittal Steel USA - Burns Harbor.

The equipment was purchased so that Mittal Steel employees could attend live classes from the Burns Harbor ICD learning Center starting this fall semester which are videoconferenced to Indiana University-Northwest in Westville.  Mittal Steel and ICD teamed up with the New York based Freedom Calls Foundation, a non-profit organization that helps arrange the overseas video calls.

The videoconference calls were arranged by John Myers, ICD coordinator and Jim Shebesh, ICD assistant, whose son also happens to be serving in IRAQ.

Four Mittal Steel employees' families participated in the 30-minute calls made to Camp Fallujah and Camp Victory in Iraq.  Seeing their loved ones, some for the first time in two years, brought a series of emotions from most family members.
